What is Lyocell?
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are extracted from sustainably grown wood using a unique closed loop system which recovers and reuses the solvents used, minimizing the environmental impact of production. Unique physical properties lead to their high tenacity profile, efficient moisture management and gentleness to skin.
Lyocell is produced using a closed-loop manufacturing process, which means that the solvents used to dissolve the cellulose are recycled and reused, reducing waste and environmental impact. The process involves dissolving the cellulose in a non-toxic solvent, then extruding it through fine holes to create fibers. The fibers are then washed, dried, and spun into yarns.
Lyocell fibers have a number of desirable properties, including high strength and durability, excellent moisture absorption and breathability, and a soft, smooth texture that is often compared to silk. It is also resistant to wrinkles and has good draping properties.
Lyocell is used in a wide range of products, including clothing, bedding, and home textiles. It is often blended with other fibers, such as cotton or wool, to improve its performance and durability. Due to its sustainable and eco-friendly production process, lyocell has become a popular choice for consumers who are looking for more sustainable and environmentally friendly products.
